This weekend I will be going camping. While up in the woods, my friends and I plan to catch the Perseid meteor shower in her height of action (August 11-13th.) Naturally I will be bringing my camera. However, it does not support a long exposure mode where I don't have to hold down the "bulb" for 15 minutes. Luckily, I've been using something called 400Plus for over a year now and it offers such a function.
It is a firmware hack for Canon's XTi (400D) with her most recent update this April. I'd highly suggest tinkering in the CHDK forum or using a search engine to look for a hack on your camera's firmware. Even point and shoot cameras are getting some of the action: CHDK is a hack for many Canon PowerShot cameras. I guess you don't need to be as inventive with the physical mechanics as much as the digital now.
Some of the features that I have found useful are the quick spot-focus selections, ISO hack, user presets and scripts as well as button reconfiguring for trash and print. I hope to have some shots worth posting soon.
